German Desserts A very popular kind of German desserts are cakes and tarts in different versions. The variety of cakes in Germany ranges from simple pound cakes up to cakes baked with fresh fruits such as apples, plums, strawberries, cherries or rhubarb. Another very popular sort of cakes is cheese cake which in Germany is traditionally made with quark and where sometimes berries such as raspberries, blueberries and other fruits or raisins are added. Tarts are either made with whipped cream or with the so called “Buttercreme” and to the most popular tarts in Germany and all over the world, available in almost every bakery and store in Germany and sometimes also offered in online shops, belong the so called “Bienenstich”, the Bee sting Cake, and the “Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte”, the Black Forest Cake. 
Cakes and Tarts for Dessert The Bee Sting Cake is a cake made with yeast dough and filled with whipped cream and vanilla custard. The particular is the top of the cake which is glazed with honey and sprinkled with almonds. The Black Forest Cake is made up of a chocolate cake, filled with fresh cream and cherries. The cherries are soaked in the so called “Kirschwasser“, a clear booze which belongs to the specialities of the area around the Black Forrest. Fresh cream, chocolate shavings and cherries are used to decorate the tart. Not at least because of the many Italian ice cream parlours, that can be found all over Germany there is another kind of food that Germans like besides cakes and tarts for dessert: ice cream, in a plain version, with whipped cream or decorated with fruits and nuts. But of course international influenced desserts like the Italian Tiramisu, the French chocolate mousse or Belgian wafers are popular in Germany, too. Topic: German Desserts
