German Marmelade

The German Marmelade is mostly a jelly made from fruits and sugar. To make some own Marmelade you only need some fresh fruits. Usualy fruits with a high percentage of pectin require a lower amount of sugar to prepare the marmelade. The receipe of preparation is very easy. If you use normal sugar you have to take twice of the weight you take of the fruits.

For example strawberries are very easy to prepare. But if you take fruits with cores you have to take them out bevore you weigh them. Normal sugar and fruits can be bought in nearly every store and sometimes in an online shop. Things can get a bit more difficult if you try to use canning sugar but good stores and supermarkets offer them too. Bevore using them everyone has to find out which type of canning sugar it is. Some of them can be used with the same weight as there are fruits and other one are made to use only half of the weight of fruits you want to use.

Traditional Marmelade

This canning sugar gives the advantage to reduce the percentage of sugar and to accent the taste of the fruits. Anyway there are a lot of fruits  which have only a very small percentage of pectin. To avoid the usage of a big amount of sugar it is possible to add some pure pectin. This can be bought in some stores, online shops and mostly in a good drug store. The number of common sorts of Marmelade rised by the time.

But traditional German Marmelade is mostly very sweet so it took a pretty long time to introduce a bitter taste like orange jelly. Today there is still canning sugar availible which you just have to mix with the fruits and where it only takes a few seconds to prepare some fresh and home made marmelade. But the disadvantage of it is, is not as durable as a cooked one.
